1 killed in Southwest Philadelphia house fire
SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Five people, including a young boy are in the hospital after a fire broke out at a Southwest Philadelphia. Officials confirm one fatality, but they did not release the identity at this time.
The fire broke out at a home on the 2400 block of Ardell Street around 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning.
Neighbors tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley a couple was inside the home with their great-grandchildren when the fire broke out. The couple was able to get out of the home safely along with two of the children.
Witnesses say the grandfather realized an 8-year-old boy had not yet made it out of the home, and he went back inside in an attempt to rescue him.
Firefighters were eventually able to pull the boy from the home and rushed him to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control around 1:20 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
