1 person, several pets killed in Juniata Park house fire

One person has died after a fire broke out inside a home in the city's Juniata Park neighborhood late Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called to the home on the 4300 block of Bennington Street shortly before midnight.

City officials confirmed that a person died inside the home, but the victim's age and cause of death are not known at this time.

Several pets were also killed in the fire.

Thursday morning, the city's fire chief strongly stressed the importance of functioning smoke detectors.
