2 New Jersey beaches close due to high bacteria levels
LONG BEACH ISLAND (WTXF) - Two beaches on Long Beach Island in Long Beach Township are closed due to high bacteria levels, according to state environmental officials.
Officials closed New Jersey and Stockton Avenue beaches in Long Beach Township on Tuesday.
The New Jersey State Sanitary Code requires that the concentration of bacteria not exceed 104 colonies of Enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of sample. Enterococci is a type of bacteria that is an indicator of possible contamination within bathing waters.
No word on when the beaches will reopen.
