3rd child dies following house fire; victims aged 2, 5, 7

UNION CITY, N.J. (AP/WTXF) -- Authorities say a third child has died following a New Jersey house fire that earlier claimed the lives of two youngsters and injured a number of other occupants and firefighters.

Officials said earlier that Friday morning's fire at a three-story home in Union City killed a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. The Hudson County prosecutor's office said Friday night that a 7-year-old boy critically injured had died.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez said two other children were in critical condition, and a woman was also in critical condition. A man was listed in stable condition.

Eight firefighters were treated at hospitals, mostly for smoke inhalation or heat-related issues.

The Red Cross has reported assisting 30 people from eight families.

The Office of Mayor Brian Stack will be collecting donations in check or money order form for the victims. They can be made payable to the Union City Fire Victims Fund and sent to the Office of Mayor Brian Stack at 3715 Palisade Ave. 3rd Floor in Union City, New Jersey 07087.

A GoFundMe has also been set up in support of Union City fire victims.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
