72-year-old woman dies in Florence Twp. condo blaze
NEW JERSEY (WTXF) A 72-year-old woman has been confirmed dead in following a 2-alarm condominium fire on Tollgate Place in Florence Township, New Jersey.
The deceased woman has been identified as Irene Thorn Avillion. Her loved ones say that she lived alone in an upstairs apartment at the property.
The blaze broke out shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday with emergency crews arriving shortly after.
Firefighters say that eight people lived in the four apartment units on the property.
Six people were rushed to the hospital because of the fire, including two firefighters and one police officer. Now, all of those people have been discharged and they are expected to make recoveries.
It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control.
Firefighters say they initially searched the building while the flames were still raging, but that it was too dangerous because of a previous roof collapse and they had to pull back.
Avillion's body was found Saturday morning.
Officials are still working to determine a cause for the fire.
