After-school activities canceled at Brandywine School District amid search for suspect

All after-school activities (athletics and clubs) are canceled Wednesday at the Brandywine School District.

Schools are dismissing at normal time and after-care programs such as the YMCA will run as scheduled. Sporting events will be rescheduled at a later date

The Brandywine School District was currently operating on a soft lockdown earlier in the day Wednesday.

The district cited the search for a suspect sought in an unrelated shooting as the reason for the lockdown. Officials released the following statement:

Due to an ongoing police investigation unrelated to our schools, all BSD schools are currently operating on a soft lockdown. This means that students and staff are remaining inside. We are in contact with the police, who are currently searching for a suspect involved in a shooting unrelated to our schools; however, out of an abundance of caution while the investigation continues, we have decided to keep all students and staff inside. We do not expect this to impact dismissal or after-school activities. If that changes, we will let the community know right away.
