Ailing police dog put down after 7 years of service in Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP/WTXF) -- An ailing police dog has been put down after seven years of service in New Castle County.

The 10-year-old German shepherd named Monty had notched 94 apprehensions over the course of his career and was responsible for the seizure of over $650,000 while assisting members of the New Castle County Police Department.

Monty had lived with police Cpl. Steven Donahue for over a decade.

The dog was retired from the K-9 unit in 2016.
