Arkansas State University Suspect Placed in Custody

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP/WTXF) - -- Arkansas State University locked down its campus and urged the evacuation of the student union Thursday after an armed man drove onto campus, but the university's Facebook page now says the individual has been placed in custody.

The lockdown remains in place.

The school sent an alert early Thursday afternoon urging the evacuation of the student union following a report of an active shooter.

Spokesman Bill Smith said the university was placed on lockdown after the man drove onto campus, but no shots were fired. He said police had surrounded the man less than 30 minutes later, but people were still urged to stay away from the student union.

The university is located in Jonesboro, about 130 miles northeast of Little Rock.

This is a developing story.
