MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - An arrest was made Sunday morning in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred on New Year's Eve in north Minneapolis, police confirmed. Aisha Freels, 36, died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle that didn't stop.
According to Minneapolis police, investigators located the suspect vehicle Sunday and a person associated with the car was interviewed and subsequently arrested. Tips from the public helped lead to the arrest, police said.
On Thursday night, Freels was struck by a light blue sedan on the intersection of 39th Avenue N. and Lyndale Avenue N. around 9:30 p.m. Police said she was crossing the street to get into a taxi at the time.
Friends and family members held a vigil outside her home on Sunday afternoon.
Freels was a mother of four children. The local hairstylist grew up in a big Minneapolis family, and they said she used to braid Randy Moss' hair during his time with the Vikings.
"She had a heart as big as the moon," Freels' mother Angela Jackson said. "She was loved by so many people."
Whereas an arrest has been made, Minneapolis police say the investigation continues.
