Arrest warrant issued in school pellet gun shooting

The DeKalb County Schools Police Department secured an arrest warrant Tuesday for a juvenile suspect in last week's pellet gun shooting at an elementary school.

According to a news release from the DeKalb County School District, the suspect faces nine counts of aggravated assault.

Police will not publicly identify the suspect because he's a juvenile.

The warrant comes as a result of the April 25 shootings at Wynbrooke Elementary Theme School.

Medics took nine students with non-life-threatening injuries to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for treatment. All were released to their parents that evening.

The day after the shooting, DeKalb County Schools Police announced they had identified a suspect and searched the suspect's home. Police said investigators took a pellet gun into evidence.

In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta last week, DeKalb County Schools Superintendent and CEO Dr. Stephen Green praised his department's vigilance and tenacity in the investigation of the shootings.

Dr. Green said, "The response time of our dedicated law enforcement professionals both on the scene and pursuing all leads is a testament to the fine individuals working in and around our schools."
