AUSTIN, TX - After a huge public debate, Austin voted against a bill that would allow ride share drivers to skip fingerprinting as part of their background checks. So UBER and Lyft halted their operations in Austin. Fingerprinting is meant to protect riders from unwanted sexual contact. In 2015, Austin police received 20 complaints.
