Bail set for man charged in death of Camden girl, 8

A teenager charged in the shooting death of an 8-year-old girl was arraigned in a Camden County court on Tuesday.

18-year-old Tyhan Brown was held on $1.5 million cash or bond. A trial date was not set.

Brown is accused of firing the gunshot that struck Gabby Carter in the head as she rode her bike across the street from her home on the 900 block of South 8 th Street on August 24th. Two days later on August 26th, Gabby succumbed to her injuries.

According to court documents, surveillance video from the area of the shooting showed that Gabby was not the intended target, and was caught in the crossfire as she and the intended target, attempted to run inside a home at the same time in order to escape the gunfire.

Investigators later discovered that the intended target had an ongoing dispute with Brown, and Brown had previously taken to social media to discuss their dispute. Two days before the incident that killed Gabby, police say Brown flashed a gun at the intended target as he and an associate drove by on an ATV near South and Spruce Streets.

On August 24 th , someone shot out the windows of Brown's mother's car. According to the documents, following the incident with the car, Brown and a number of other shooters made their way to South 8 th Street and began firing at their intended target, but struck Gabby Carter instead.

Following the shooting, authorities say Brown traveled to his Aunt's house in Sicklerville, New Jersey with his mother and girlfriend. A family friend then made arrangements to fly Brown to Nashville, Tennessee, where investigators caught up with him several days after the shooting.

Brown told detectives he was with his mother and girlfriend at his aunt's Sicklerville home at the time of the shooting.

Further investigation, revealed that Brown did not make his way to Sicklerville until 10:00 p.m. that evening. Brown's mother, Shakia Land, and girlfriend, Natasha Gerald, were both charged with hindering an investigation, after police say they provided a false alibi for Brown.
