Bank robber in drag sought in South Jersey

Police in Burlington County are searching for a man they say disguised himself as a woman during an armed bank robbery.

The robbery occurred at the Beneficial Bank on the 1100 block of Cooper Street in Edgewater Park, New Jersey Friday around 2:00 p.m.

Police say the suspect approached the bank on a bicycle and used the bike to prop open the entrance door. The suspect then approached the teller, and demanded money while apparently showing a silver colored firearm in his waistband.

The suspect, who appeared to be wearing socks on his hands, verbally threatened tellers that they would be shot if they sounded the banks alarms.

Investigators say the suspect fled the bank on the bicycle with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police have described the suspect as a black male in his early to mid-20s, wearing a brown wig with light colored highlights.
