Charging cell phone allegedly caused house fire in South Brunswick

A cell phone left charging on a power strip in the basement allegedly started an inferno that destroyed a home in South Brunswick, New Jersey on Wednesday.

Shortly after 5:30, firefighters arrived to a residence on Fresh Ponds Road and found flames billowing from the side and rear of the home.

The two-alarm fire took three companies from neighboring townships to snuff.

Luckily, the family was able to make it out of the home safely, but heavy fire and smoke damage left their ranch-style residence unhabitable.

Officials are waiting still investigating what caused the blaze.
