Crane crashes into Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas
LAKE MARY, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - A construction crane crashed into a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that was docked in the Bahamas on Monday.
The Oasis of the Seas, which sails out of the Port Canaveral, was at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, where the vessel is currently in drydock. Cellphone video captured the aftermath of the crash.
A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean Cruises said eight people were hurt in the incident, though none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. No passengers were said to have been on board the ship at the time of the crash.
A video tweeted by Bahamas Press early Monday afternoon showed construction equipment lying against the ship.
"We are aware of damage to the dock structure and to construction cranes," said Melissa Charbonneau. "We are assessing damage to the ship."
The cause of the crane's collapse remains under investigation. The ship was in drydock for maintenance procedures, Charbonneau said.
