Crews respond to gas main break in North Philadelphia, roads closed

Emergency and utility crews responded to a gas main break in Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

Crews responded to Luzerne Street between Rising Sun Avenue and American Street around 6 a.m. after workers in the area struck the line, causing the leak.

Luzerne Street was shut down in the area of the break and Philadelphia Gas Works crews were on the scene.

Police on the scene say the break has impacted schools in the area, and are asking students who may be walking to school to avoid the area.

FOX 29's Bob Kelly recommends using Hunting Park Avenue as an alternate route to get around the closure.
