Deputy Police Commissioner Bethel is Retiring

Philadelphia Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel is retiring from the department in order to become a fellow at the Stoneleigh Foundation, the foundation announced Wednesday.

Bethel will become the first Diana A. Millner Youth Justice Fellow at the foundation, which was founded in order to " improve the life outcomes of Greater Philadelphia's most vulnerable youth."

A member of the department for 29 years, Bethel will retire in January, at the same time as Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

"Kevin Bethel has been a true leader in advancing policies and practices that help keep kids in school and out of prison," Ronnie L. Bloom, executive director of the Stoneleigh Foundation, said in a statement.

"His long track record in law enforcement; expertise in juvenile justice; and relationships with local, state, and national stakeholders
