Dog rescued from icy lake in Collingswood
COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (FOX 29) - Firefighters rescued a dog from an icy lake in Collingswood, New Jersey, on Monday.
FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce has the story.
Hours after Lacie, a golden retriever-Australian shepherd mix, was heroically rescued from an icy Cooper River and treated at North Star Veterinary Hospital in Maple Shade she headed home. The pup is warm and healthy and ready to reunite with her family.
Collingswood firefighters Kyle Jarozynski and Julian D'Alonzo made this reunion possible.
When the rescue call came in, they hopped into their ice suits Then, they jumped into the frigid waters. Lacie was about 100 feet off the shoreline. Despite the freezing water and negative wind chills, the firefighters stayed focused.
"We alternated using an ax breaking through ice using as a lever to break ice down. We ended up breaking ice all the way out to dog," Jarozynski explained.
They say they had the adrenaline, passion and heart to keep going.
