Dogs rescued from Korean butcher available for adoption at local animal shelter

Gloucester Township, NJ - Three dogs rescued from a dog meat farm in Wonju, South Korea are available for adoption at the Camden County Animal Shelter in Gloucester Township.

The dogs were rescued as part of an international effort to redirect Korean farmers to pursue other economic activities and permanently end the farming of dogs for meat, according to the shelter.

"These dogs have overcome insurmountable odds, and have traveled a great distance to find someone to provide them with the love and care they deserve," said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Animal Shelter. "These dogs, along with other animals, are waiting for you to provide them with their forever home."

According to the Camden County Animal Shelter, the dogs were provided necessary veterinary attention so they were able to enter the United States. Once in the country, they were given additional medical attention before arriving at shelters that were able to provide the dogs with time to adjust, medical care and extensive behavior rehabilitation and training so they can be adopted.

The dogs below are available for adoption:

Joey, a 1-year-old 50 lb. female Golden Retriever, loves to play with toys and other dogs. She is very food motivated, is unsure of loud noises, is still unsure of people and needs leash training.

Liberty, a 1 to 2-year-old female 60 lb. Siberian Husky, opens up around other dogs. Liberty is picky with food, doesn't like to share her toys, needs leash training and is unsure of new people but accepts touching.

Tisha is a 2 to 3-year-old female 60 l.b Tosa Inu (Japanese Mastiff). She loves people, enjoys her toys and is very curious. She is good on a leash, is picky with food and is unsure of new dogs. She is currently on medication for pain management due to an old injury to her back leg.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to rescue these dogs, provide medical attention and care and find them loving homes," shares Vicki Rowland, Executive Director of CCAS.
