DSP K9 Helps Nab Alleged Drug Dealer

Delaware State Police have announced an arrest of a man following a two month long drug investigation.

Purnell Collins, 48, of Bridgeville, was arrested following a police chase in Sussex County Thursday afternoon.

Officers attempted to pull Collins over around 2:00 p.m. after he was observed committing a traffic highway on Route 13 Southbound near Concord Road.

Troopers pulled Collins over, and approached his car, asking him to exit, when they say the suspect proceeded to put the car in drive, and take off.

Collins dragged a Trooper a short distance downt the highway.

The chase came to an end when Collins slammed into a tree head-on after losing control of the car, and attempted to flee on foot before he was taken into custody with the help of a police K9.

The suspect was found to be in possession of 41.6 grams of cocaine along with 3.1 grams of crack cocaine.

Officers then searched the home of Collins, who is on probation for a 2003 conviction, and where they located three fire arms and more than $2,300 in suspected drug proceeds.

He is facing several charges, and was held on $80,500 cash bond
