Facebook CEO visits Delaware to talk about disaster response
(WTXF/AP) - It's unclear whether or not Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will appear in a Delaware court on Tuesday.
He was supposed to testify after announcing a plan last year to change the shareholder structure of his company.
That plan would have allowed him to keep control of Facebook and free up billions of dollars for his charitable efforts.
On Friday he dropped those plans, meaning he doesn't have to testify.
Instead, Zuckerberg says he spent the day in Delaware talking about emergency response for natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods and earthquakes.
Zuckerberg said in a post Monday that Facebook is in a unique position to help with disaster response. He noted the safety check tool that asks people in a disaster area if they're safe and immediately notifies their friends and family. The post also mentioned community and fundraising tools as ways Facebook can help.
Zuckerberg said he stopped by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency headquarters and met with academics studying disaster response and leaders of nonprofit groups.
His visit to Delaware is one reason why Zuckerberg has been spotted at several local hotspots over the past couple of days, including a stop at Pat's King of Steaks on Sunday.
