Fairfax County man tries to kill estranged wife with poisoned donuts, court records say

FAIRFAX, Va. - A Fairfax County man is accused of trying to kill his estranged wife with poisoned donuts, according to court records.

Court records indicate Ghulam Nabizadah's wife was granted a protection order back in November following death threats from the 54-year-old man.

A week after the protection order was granted, court records state Nabizadah, who lives in Centreville, had a visitation with his children and sent them back to their mother's home with a box of six chocolate-glazed donuts.

But when Nabizadah's daughter took a bite out of one of the donuts she immediately noticed a terrible taste, court records state.

The donuts were tested in a lab and court records indicated they contained the chemical naphthalene, which is most commonly found in mothballs.

Exposure or ingestion of naphthalene can cause liver damage, neurological damage and death. Thankfully, officials said Nabizadah's daughter was unharmed.

Investigators searched Nabizadah's home this week and seized ant bait, shoe polish, utensils, a phone and charcoal from the house.

FOX 5 attempted to talk to Nabizadah at his house in Centreville on Thursday but he was not home.

FOX 5 reached out to Fairfax County police about their case but officials said they could not comment because their investigation was ongoing.

At this time, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in the case.
