Falling Tree Kills Postal Worker
Lithonia, GA. - The family of a veteran U.S. Postal Service worker killed Saturday in a freak accident says he was a dedicated family man who leaves behind two children and a wife.
Dekalb County Fire Rescue Captain Eric Jackson says postal worker Decarlo Allen was delivering mail around 12:30 p.m. at the Mystery Valley Golf Club in Lithonia when a gust of wind sent a tree toppling over.
The tree crashed onto the top of Allen's postal truck, sending it careening out of control where it came to rest against another tree.
Jackson said Allen likely died instantly and describes the incident as a "freak accident."
Dekalb Police spent Saturday afternoon investigating the incident. The victim's uncle, Nicholas Allen, told FOX 5 his nephew had worked for the Postal Service for more than ten years.
Allen's sister, Keosha Smith said he has was always there for his immediate and extended family and took care of all of them.
