Family hopes to raise money after specially engineered van totaled

Police are looking for a driver who appears to have lost control, veered off the road and hit a physically challenged man's van overnight. The man and his family are now in a pinch trying to figure out what to do since the van is totaled.

It happened around 1 a.m. Monday.

The van is everything to 43-year-old Bryce Smith. He has been in a wheelchair since he was a child. Bryce is very active. He has his college degree, works every day at PennDot and he's captain of the Flyers Philadelphia PowerPlay wheelchair hockey team.

The damage cuts deep for this hard working family and it happened in a blink.

Witnesses told police a big pickup was speeding along Academy Road, crossing all lanes, ramming through yards and a neighbor's car. It plowed on into the Smith's fences--stopping short of slamming into a home.

"I'll get there someway, this won't keep me from working. No, no we won't let that stop me," Smith said.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help Bryce.
