Firefighters killed in Wilmington house fire were longtime members of the force

Wilmington Fire Department has released photos of the two firefighters who died following a house fire at a Wilmington row home early Saturday morning.

Lieutenant Christopher Leach was hired on September 16, 2002 and was assigned to Engine 6 D Platoon.

Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes was hired on December 15, 2003 and was assigned to Squad 4 C Platoon.

Leach and Fickes were working on the first floor of the home when the flooring collapsed, trapping them in the basement area of the home.

In addition to the two fatalities, four other firefighters were injured during the fire. Two were taken to Crozer Burn Center Upland Pennsylvania.

One has been released from Christiana Hospital, while another remains.
