Food to Live green powders and mixes recalled over Salmonella fears

Multiple green powder products from a Brooklyn, New York-based company that were sold nationwide have been recalled over fears that they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Nine varieties of Food to Live powders were included in the recall, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The items were sold online to consumers and other businesses through websites like foodtolive.com and foodinbulk.com, as well as other online retailers. The affected packages ranged in size from sample sizes and stand-up pouches to 33-, 44-, and 55-pound bulk cases.

The FDA noted that lot codes and best before dates are printed on the back of the package, below the nutrition facts label and next to the bar code.

Anyone who has the recalled products should not eat them, the FDA advises. The powders can be thrown away or returned to where they were purchased for a full refund. The FDA explained that the recall occurred because the agency was alerted that a sample of Food to Live’s Organic SuperGreens Mix that was in an eight-ounce package and collected at retail had tested positive for Salmonella. The source of the problem has not been determined, and the company has decided to suspend production and distribution while the FDA investigates.
No illnesses in connection with the recall have been reported.
