Funeral services held for WWII veteran Richard Overton

Texans are preparing to say good bye to Richard Overton, the nation's oldest living veteran who died on Dec. 27, 2018 at 112 years old.

Memorial services begin with a public viewing on Friday from 12 to 6 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shoreline Church in North Austin. A public burial will take place at the Texas State Cemetery in East Austin at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The veteran was born near Bastrop in 1906 and served in the army for three years during World War II. The majority of his life was spent in Austin, Texas where he was often seen on the front of his East Austin home that he built in 1945.
