Gas prices rise in New Jersey, elsewhere

Gas prices in New Jersey have shot up 11 cents on average over the past week according to AAA mid-atlantic.

The going per gallon in the Garden State currently sits at $2.93 per gallon.

This time last year, Jersey drivers were paying $2.86 per gallon.

Analysts say the spike comes from higher crude oil prices, increased demand for gas and the switch to summer blend fuel.

Elsewhere in our region gas is selling at $3.06 a gallon in Pennsylvania, which is seven cents higher than last week.

Meanwhile, Delaware has the lowest prices in the region at $2.79 a gallon, but that price is still up 14 cents from last week.

The national average is currently $2.88 a gallon.
