Gloucester Township police officer accused of hitting 13-year-old girl

Authorities say a Gloucester Township police officer is facing a simple assault charge. The officer is accused of hitting a 13-year-old girl while responding to a disturbance call back in March.

According to authorities, 27-year-old Gloucester Township police officer John Flinn along with other officers were dispatched to investigate a disturbance on March 8. When they arrived, they encountered a 13-year-old girl.

Police say the girl complied with police instructions and allowed Flinn to handcuff her when he struck her twice on the side of her face causing her to cry out in pain. The incident was captured on the responding officers' body worn cameras. The girl was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No criminal charges were filed against the juvenile.

According to authorities, Flinn has been suspended and he has been a Gloucester Township police officer since 2015.
