Heartbreaking text message exchange during Aberdeen shooting from mother to daughter
ABERDEEN, Md. - A mother texted heartbreaking messages to her daughter during an active shooting in Harford County on Thursday.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office said there were three dead and multiple wounded after an active shooter opened fire at a Rite Aid distribution center in the Aberdeen area at about 9:10 a.m.
At approximately 9:31 a.m. Christine Scharmann, an employee of 15 years at the center, texted her daughter Alexie what could have been her final goodbyes.
FOX 5's Annie Yu spoke with Alexie, who said she was just getting out of bed when she received the texts. She frantically called her mother but could not get in contact right away. About an hour later she heard from Christine who said she was being transported to a safe zone on buses but did not know where.
Alexie, who is a former employee of the distribution center, told Annie her mother was located in the Liberty Building, comprised of a close-knit group of about 50 employees. Additionally, she said the facility does not have metal detectors and there is only one entrance into that section of the center.
