Hot Cops: Viral Gainesville cops react to becoming social media sensations
GAINESVILLE, FL - A couple of good looking cops were heating up social media this week as they worked to help those affected by Hurricane Irma.
While law enforcement officers are known to protect and serve, these officers also pose.
Officers from the Gainesville Police Department in Florida posted a photo during Hurricane Irma on Facebook that has since gone viral. Most people commented on their looks.
"A lot of messages and what not. I honestly had to turn my phone off last night so it's been excessive," Officer Dan Rengering, the only single one in the group photo, explained.
Rengering is enjoying the attention as a bachelor but Officer Michael Hamill, who's married, says his wife was not thrilled.
"She doesn't like that kind of attention at all, so, now she's come around since she's realized there's nothing she can do about it so," Hamill said.
The police department had to put out a statement warning residents not to call 9-1-1 to get the officers to respond to their homes.
One Facebook user wrote, "Do a calendar, add puppies and I'm pretty sure we can rebuild Texas and Florida."
The post has over 450,000 reactions and more than 240,000 shares, and they aren't the only ones getting attention.
Another officer also has a few admirers.
"Best one I've probably seen is like 'Oh, okay, there's the chocolate we want.' So that kind of made me laugh a lot," Officer Bylynn Hatcher said of a Facebook comment on his photo.
The police department is planning to put together a calendar featuring the officers to raise money for relief efforts in Florida.
