Chaos at the Commodore Barry Bridge Thursday morning after police say a suspect fled in a stolen police vehicle after being shot, crossing state lines before ending with several crashes.

It all began when New Castle County officers were called to a domestic-related incident at Cynwyd Club in Wilmington around 2:30 a.m.

Police say an officer shot the suspect during a struggle when they tried to flee on foot.

The suspect then stole a police cruiser, taking off on Route 7 and leading police on a chase towards Pennsylvania on I-95.

After several crashes with police vehicles, officials say the suspect's vehicle became disabled on I-95 North in Delaware County, where he was taken into custody.

Suspect identified after stolen police cruiser pursuit and crash on I-95

Police have identified a man they say stole a police cruiser, then led them on a chase that ended with a crash on I-95 Thursday morning.

One officer, a 3-year veteran of the New Castle County Division of Police, is also being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during a crash.

The discharging officer, an 8-year veteran of the force, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Northbound lanes of I-95 at the Commodore Barry Bridge were shut down for several hours, along with Route 7 in Wilmington. All lanes have since reopened.

This closure comes as another part of I-95 is shut down in Philadelphia due to bridge repairs after an accident earlier this week.
