Man Charged in Northeast Philadelphia Hit-and-Run

Philadelphia police say they have charged a man in connection with a hit-and-run that left a 6-year-old girl injured.

The incident occurred on the 6600 block of Sylvester Street in Northeast Philadelphia Saturday around 6:58 p.m.

Police say 27-year-old Mark Edwards was allegedly driving a tan 2004 Mercury eastbound on Magee Ave when he got into an accident with another car turning left on Large Street. According to police, that's when the Mercury mounted the curb, striking a 6-year-old girl in front of 6600 Sylvester Street. The 6-year-old girl was transported St. Christopher's Hospital for broken bones.

Police say Edwards fled the scene on foot. According to police, officers were able to locate Edwards and get a positive ID from witnesses. According to police, 27-year-old Mark Edwards is charged with criminal mischief, accident damage and related offenses.
