Man charged with fatal road rage shooting waives preliminary hearing

WEST CHESTER, PA (WTXF) - The Delaware County man charged with fatally shooting a 18-year-old woman during a road rage encounter waved his preliminary hearing early Thursday morning.

28-year-old David Desper will now be held for trial for the first-degree murder of 18-year-old Bianca Roberson. Prosecutors say Bianca was preparing to head to college at Jacksonville University before Desper shot and killed her in a road rage incident that occurred in late June.

Authorities say Desper shot Bianca once in the head before speeding off and dumping his red pick-up truck. The incident sparked a massive manhunt, with thousands of tips coming into police from across the country. Desper turned himself in as media coverage intensified.

FOX 29 spoke to Bianca's father, Rodney, at the courthouse before Desper waived his hearing Thursday morning.

"We're taking it one day at a time," Rodney said. "It's still hard for all of us. We think about Bianca every day."

When asked what he wanted out of the hearing, Rodney had a simple reply.

"We want justice for our daughter," he said, before adding. "It is not going to bring her back. We still hurt."

Rodney also expressed gratitude toward the people who showed their love and support during this difficult time.

Despite Rodney's earlier plea for authorities to revisit Desper's motive in killing his daughter as a possible hate crime, prosecutors will pursue a road rage motive in the case. For Rodney, though, the loss of his daughter is what weighs on him.

"Road rage, hate crime -- the bottom line to me is my daughter was murdered," he said.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Desper would face an automatic sentence of life behind bars without parole.
