Man gets 15 years in prison for shooting Camden officer

A man convicted of shooting a New Jersey police officer in the leg has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says 21-year-old Delronn Mahan, of Lindenwold, was sentenced Friday on guilty pleas to aggravated assault and weapons charges. He had been charged with attempted murder.

Under terms of a plea deal, prosecutors said, he was sentenced to seven years for aggravated assault and eight years on the weapons count. Prosecutors say he will have to serve at least 10 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Officer Patrick O'Hanlon was shot in Camden in 2017 after he chased and tried to arrest Mahan. Authorities say the weapon jammed as the pair struggled, preventing Mahan from firing a second shot.
