Man hears about a stranger's two dogs dying and helps pay the vet bills
WILLOWICK, OH - A Cleveland-area man has to bury his two dogs, and a total stranger is so touched he offers to help cover some of the medical bills.
This is Mya and Tank.
The two dogs belonged to Josh Johnson and Brandi Allen.
But Mya got very sick, and so did Tank, quickly after.
Their conditions were so bad that the vet ordered both animals be euthanized.
Even worse, it turns out the two dogs likely ingested rat poison in the couple's backyard.
"It's horrid. I cannot tell you right now the way I feel. It's not my head, it's not my heart. it's my soul," Johnson said.
"I had to bury two dogs in less than 24 hours."
"It's like two of my kids are gone," Allen said.
It's not clear how it happened, but a total stranger heard what happened and decided to step in.
Dave and Eileen Steele's own dog died of cancer just one week ago.
They remembered how an anonymous donor had given them one thousand dollars to cover their dog's vet bill when it was a puppy.
So this weekend, they paid it forward, handing over five hundred dollars to cover Mya and Tank's vet bills.
"It was almost fate. I guess maybe but I read the story and I knew immediately I have to do something," Dave Steele said.
I promised if I was in a situation to help out another family that needed it, I would do it."
It won't bring them back--but does bring some comfort to a family in pain.
Eileen Steele said, "The pain of missing your dog is fresh and new. Those are your kids. They're not just your dogs, they're your family."
"It won't take the pain and everything away, but it's very much appreciated. I can't thank them enough," Allen said.
Johnson said, "We became friends right now in this room today and it's changed my life."
As for how Mya and Tank were poisoned -- the Lake County Humane Society and Willowick Police Department are investigating.
