Man paralyzed from chest down inspires others with powerful video

A man who became paralyzed from the chest down after he fell from a tree in 2009 has inspired others to get out and do something after he posted a video of how he started work every morning.

In a powerful video posted to both Facebook and YouTube, Nick Shortridge demonstrated how he pulled himself up from his wheelchair into his dump truck which he uses for his excavation business.

Shortridge hoped to inspire people with the video, and on YouTube wrote that he and his wife "did this video to motivate and also to show how a spinal cord patient transfers to a vehicle, in this case a big dumptruck."

A GoFundMe account for Shortridge has since been set up and it hopes to raise $25,000 to "build him a custom trike that will accommodate his wheelchair safely, and yet let him again feel the freedom of riding."

The account has raised $1,665 so far.
