Man posts heartwarming story, photos of blind dog he rescued

A Reddit user has shared his story of adopting a blind black Labrador from Cincinnati Lab Rescue along with some great pictures.

And while the story of the cruelty visited on the dog is shocking, the images of him "being blind" as the uploader describes it, do manage to raise a smile.

The user, redhotsedative, wrote about the back story behind the dog's rescue in a Reddit comment.

"So I decided I wanted to help out with a local organization called [Cincinnati Lab Rescue](www.cincinnatilabrescue.org). I was looking at their website and they had this old black lab with cataracts and severe glaucoma.

"He had been left for dead on the side of the road probably because of medical expenses. The rescue had him on pain meds and everything possible to help out, but he was losing weight fast, he became a hospice case. The options were to keep the current meds going and hope he makes a comeback, or have both of his eyes removed - a double enucleation a pricey surgery that can be difficult to recover from. This is a hard choice any shelter or animal owner has been faced with at some point.

"I met him and he reminded me of the blind lab I grew up with. So I paid for the surgery as a donation to the rescue and adopted him afterwards. They were shocked but I just connected with this guy the first time I met him.

"Its been about 7 months? [sic] now. He's fully recovered and living a happy life like every other dog. I take him out on walks and to events - he inspires everyone he meets [sic]

"He's shown me a new perspective on life. He lived his whole life mistreated (likely chained up - damage to his neck, cannot use a collar on him) and now he's the happiest dog in my pack.

"I've continued to volunteer with this shelter and foster for them - to anyone thinking about it, do it! Fostering is so rewarding, and if you cant [sic] do that volunteer at a local shelter [sic]"
