Man, woman killed in overnight house fire

A man and a woman are dead after a fire broke out at their home in the Bustleton section of Northeast Philadelphia.

Firefighters were called to heavy flames and smoke in the 9800 block of Bridle Road just before midnight.

It took more than 40 of them about 35 minutes to get the upper hand.

Then, they found the man and woman. FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reports one was in the foyer and the other in the living area.

Crews pulled them and performed CPR, but both people died. Neighbors said the couple had moved in about a year ago, and had just taken their daughter to college.

Also, one firefighter was taken to the hospital with what we're told were very minor injuries.

Investigators have been collecting evidence, looking into the cause of the fire. They indicated it started on the first floor, but pictures and damage clearly show major damage upstairs.

After, nearby homes were evacuated for a minor gas leak, but that has not been linked to the cause.
