Massive ice piles on shores of Niagara River

Ice that's been forced onto the shores of the Niagara River and Lake Erie is getting lots of attention.

A photo was posted by the Erie County Dept. of Homeland Security & Emergency Services on Sunday that shows an enormous pile of ice with a man standing in its shadow.

Local residents dubbed the pile an 'ice tsunami.'

The Niagara Parks Police Service posted dramatic video of the ice moving over a retaining wall much like water moves.

Frigid temperatures and high winds have combined to push the ice off the water's surface and onto shore in New York and Ontario, Canada. Some residents were urged to evacuate.

Wind gusts of 74 mph -- hurricane strength-- were reported in Niagara Falls.
