Montco Indicts Two on Heroin Charges

The Montgomery County District Attorney's office has announced the arrest of two people for heroin trafficking and other charges.

Melissa Griffin and Dashawn Smith have been arrested and charged with heroin trafficking, recklessly endangering another person and other offenses.

The case began in November when West Pottsgrove police arrived at a home at which Smith had reportedly burglarized, while also placing a gun to the head of Smith, his then-ex-girlfriend.

At the same time, Smith was being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies for distributing heroin. Once agencies began working together and surveillance of Smith began, they discovered the two were working together.

After an unsuccessful attempt to arrest Smith on December 17, both he and Griffin were brought in this week. They were found with 1291 bags of heroin (a street value of $13,000) as well as a taser, five cell phones and $5,842 in cash.

Smith and Griffin were arraigned Saturday. They will have a preliminary hearing January 12.
