Morning protest against soda tax expected
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - There's a protest against the proposed soda tax planned for Wednesday at 10am outside Philadelphia City Hall.
Members of Action United will be out as city officials hold a hearing to discuss the tax, which would be three cents per ounce.
Mayor Jim Kenney told FOX 29 News says ads against the tax aren't exactly accurate.
"It's not a grocery tax. It's a sugar, sweet and beverage tax. It's not on diet soda, it's not on Coke Zero, it's not on water," Kenney explained.
The mayor also said the tax money would allow 6,500 more children each year to get a pre-K education.
