Mother arrested for third drunk driving offense with child in car

MILFORD, MI (FOX 2)- A woman was arrested, accused of her third drunk driving offense in Milford.

This time, police say she had her 4-year-old son in the car during the stop on South Milford Road near West Moore on Nov. 2.

At 2:15 p.m. police received reports that the 33-year-old woman's vehicle was all over the road as it made its way through the construction area.

"She ran over several cones and they were under her vehicle," said Det. Sgt. Scott Tarasiewicz.

When police pulled the vehicle over they knew something was wrong.

On dash cam video, the officer asks "How much have you had to drink today?"

"Nothing," the woman said.

"Are you sure, I can smell it and you are slurring your speech," the officer said.

Police say inside the vehicle was the 33 year old woman's 4-year-old son and two cans of Red Bull in cup holders.

"Are you sure you haven't had anything?" the officer asked her.

"Last night I had vodka and Red Bull," the woman said.

Police had her do a sobriety test but she refused to submit to a preliminary breath test. That's when a warrant was issued for a blood test.

"After she got tested she was four times over the legal limit," Tarasiewicz said.

Once she was told the woman started to argue with police about her son. Police say her son was transported back to the police station in a separate vehicle and he was picked up by his father.

According to the police report, the woman is no stranger to driving under the influence and she has two prior OWI offenses.

Police say this case has been turned over to the prosecutor's office for review and now she could be facing even more charges.
