Mount Penn fire in Reading now under control
READING, Pa. (WTXF/AP) - Crews from the state Bureau of Forestry are investigating and assessing the extent of a forest fire now under control on a Berks County mountain.
The fire on Mount Penn in Reading was reported Monday evening. Officials say it began in the woods behind Reading High School.
But firefighters from Reading and surrounding communities responded and contained the fire by early Tuesday.
The fire and smoke had been visible for miles but SKYFOX couldn't even find embers while flying overhead at about 6:30am.
Now, crews will use GPS devices to measure the size of the fire, which has been estimated as 50 to 60 acres.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage to any homes or businesses in the area, and no people or businesses had been evacuated.
