N.J. town home fire that killed family pets called 'suspicious'

MARLBORO, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say an early morning fire in a New Jersey town home that killed a dog and a cat is considered suspicious in origin.

Fire crews in Marlboro Township were called to the Roseberry Court home just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Capt. Frederick Reck of the Marlboro police department said firefighters had the flames contained to the upper level of one unit within about a half-hour.

He said residents were able to evacuate and no one was injured. Two family pets, a dog and a cat, were killed.

Reck said the cause of the fire remains under investigation but "it is suspicious in nature at this point."
