National Night Out to strengthen neighborhoods, gun safety

Communities in our area and around the country will be participating in National Night Out.

The idea is to strengthen neighborhoods by bridging the gap and encouraging community-police relationships. That, in turn, should reduce crime.

Police departments in and around Philadelphia will be hosting events, Tuesday.

Part of the efforts includes promoting the importance of gun safety.

Philadelphia plans to hand out gun locks out at several events. Recently, City Council passed the Child Safety Provision which requires firearms be safely stored in homes with children.
