MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WTXF) - Police in Manchester Township, New Jersey say they have charged a man in connection with the theft of bronze grave marker vases from a cemetery.
John White, of Ocean County, New Jersey, was charged in the theft of approximately 500 bronze grave marker vases from Whiting Memorial Park.
Staff members at the cemetery notified police on February 14 of the missing bronze vases. The total value of the vases is estimated to be approximately $175,000.
Manchester Township police say they were able to trace the sale of 3,000 pounds of bronze to two scrap yards. They say the sale was made by White. Police believe the theft of the vases occurred over a month beginning in January. Manchester Township police say they were able to recover approximately 450 vases.
White remains at large, despite being charged. The investigation is ongoing.
