NJ man caught with 76K child porn files gets 7-year sentence

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A man who had one of the largest collections of child pornography ever seized by law enforcement in New Jersey has been sentenced to seven years in state prison.

John DeFay Jr. also must register as a sex offender under the sentence imposed Friday.

Authorities found more than 76,000 videos and images of child porn on DeFay's computer equipment when they executed a search warrant at his Pitman home in July 2016.

The 48-year-old DeFay had pleaded guilty last September to distributing child porn. He was among 40 men arrested as part of a statewide child pornography crackdown.

DeFay admitted using file-sharing software to make multiple child porn files available to others online, including more than a dozen that were downloaded by state police as part of the investigation.
