NJ man charged with murder after girlfriend's body found in refrigerator
RUNNEMEDE, N.J. - A cross-country murder case has ended with a man from South Jersey behind bars in California for the death of his girlfriend.
What we know:
A woman's body was found inside a refrigerator at Belleplain State Forest in Dennis Township, New Jersey, in December 2024.
She was later identified as 50-year-old Laura Hughes from Runnemede.
The woman's boyfriend, identified as 45-year-old Christopher Blevins, was taken into custody in San Diego weeks later for desecrating human remains and hindering apprehension.
He is now charged with first-degree murder.
What we don't know:
Police have yet to release further details about the woman's death. It is also unclear when the suspect fled to California.
What's next:
Blevins is currently being held in a correctional facility in California, pending extradition back to New Jersey.
