NJ man charged with possession, distribution of child pornography

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ (WTXF) - A Mount Laurel man is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography after authorities went to his home and say they found a laptop computer with "numerous" illegal videos and images.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi announced the investigation began when his High-Tech Crimes Unit got a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

It found someone, later identified as Daniel P. Caplan, was sharing a video of child pornography with someone else through a web camera streaming program.

Thursday, they showed up at Caplan's home with a search warrant, found that laptop, and arrested Caplan.

Caplan, 23, is charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children. The prosecutor's office explained one count covers distribution of pornographic material, and the other two deal with possession of the pornographic material.

Caplan is being held in the Burlington County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Authorities say if he posts bail, he won't be allowed to use the internet or have contact with minors.
